What Is The Process For Making A Claim?
Following an injury at work you should:
- Get first aid as soon as possible on site;
- report the accident to your employer;
- seek medical attention from your own preferred doctor as soon as possible to get a First Medical Certificate (also known as a First Progress Certificate); and
- Follow your doctors advice on whether to return to work or seek further treatment.
To make a claim you should fill out a workers compensation claim form and attach your 1st progress certificate to the form and hand it to your employer. You should make sure any claim is made within 12 months unless you have good reason not to.
We have prepared a short video for you to have a look at before you fill out the form
If you have not gone back to work you should send the claim form by registered post to your employers listed business address as required by the Act, however, if you are unable to do that you could also fax or email the claim form to a published fax number or email address and follow it up with a phone call.
Your employer must give the completed claim form to their workers compensation insurer within 5 working days.
The employer must give the claim form to the insurer within 5 working days and the insurer has 14 days to notify you that either the claim is accepted. there is not enough information to make a decision and they need more time or the claim is denied.
